General Rashad assumes his office as CJCSC

Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman General Rashad Mahmood assumed the charge of his office on Thursday.

A simple but impressive ceremony was held at the Joint Staff Headquarters to formally welcome the newly-appointed Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Rashad Mahmood, on assumption of the appointment.

On arrival at the headquarters, he was received by Director General Joint Staff Lieutenant General Muhammad Asif. A smartly turned out contingent of the three-services presented the guard of honour to the chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, who reviewed the parade. Later, the director generals of the Joint Staff Headquarters were introduced to the new chairman.

General Mahmood was appointed as the CJCSC on Wednesday while General Raheel Sharif was appointed as army chief. With the outgoing Army Chief General Kayani spending his last day in command, his successor General Sharif will assume charge on Friday.

General Rashad Mahmood was commissioned in May 1975 in Baloch Regiment. He has attended Company Commander Course from France and is a graduate of Commmad & Staff College, Canada and NationalDefenceCollege, Islamabad.

The general officer has varied experience of command, staff and instructional appointments. His major appointments include Platoon Commander, PakistanMilitaryAcademy, Brigade Major Infantry Brigade, Instructor at Command & StaffCollege and NationalDefenceCollege. He has remained Chief of Staff Bahawalpur Corps and Military Secretary to president Rafiq Tarar.

The general officer has commanded two Infantry Battalions, two Infantry Brigades and United Nations contingent at Congo, Infantry Division at Jhelum, Director General at Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate, Islamabad, and Commander Lahore Corps. After commanding the Corps, he took over as Chief of General Staff in January, 2013. The general officer has been conferred with Hilal-i-Imtiaz (military).
