KP CM urges PM to convene meeting on drone strikes

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to convene a meeting to evolve a strategy about drone strikes.
In a letter Khattak demanded that the PM suspend NATO supplies.
In the letter released to the media, the CM drew the PM’s attention to the public resentment in the province on account of drone strikes. He said the Province was inundated by anger at the unbridled aggression in FATA.
“The recent strike in Hangu has added fuel to a fire that was already raging far and wide. For the People of this Province and its adjoining Tribal Areas, it is quite clearly the last straw on the back of the proverbial camel,” the letter read.
The CM made four points in his letter, saying that as elected representatives of the People, they are morally obliged to recognize and have the fullest sympathy with all their legitimate feelings and grievances.
That is precisely what the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has done so far.
Alongside, the provincial government has to also remain fully mindful of all the foreseeable hazards inherent in an emerging situation.
It also read, “Although the Law enforcement agencies have been directed to maintain peace and order during the protest, it shall be most unfortunate if our citizens, while expressing justified resentment, are confronted and engaged by their own Police force to exclude the distinct possibility of other elements pursuing their own anti-Pakistan agenda.”
Khattak requested the PM to consider convening a meeting at the Federal level to which all the Provinces may be invited to evolve a common strategy. He said they must show the world that we are a house united when it comes to defending the sovereignty of Pakistan. He said the meeting can also discuss if the APC should be re-convened.
The KP CM demanded that until the holding of the said meeting, it is necessary that the federal government suspend NATO supplies entering KP from and to Afghanistan. He said this is the only way they can somewhat assuage the roused feelings which they understand and sympathise with completely.
