He said that all out measures would be taken to provide relief to the common man and 20-kg flour bag would be available at sasta bazaars at the ex-mill rate; Rs 765. The chief minister issued instructions to concerned departments to take necessary measures for stability of flour prices and said that there should not be increase of even a single penny in the price of flour.
The chief minister directed that besides abundant supply of flour bags in sasta bazaars throughout the province, quality of flour should also be ensured. Taking notice of non-construction of silos for wheat storage, the chief minister issued instructions to Food Department for immediate construction of silos. He said that it is unfortunate that a province which procures 4 million tonnes wheat annually could not construct silos on time for the storage of wheat. He directed that the project of construction of silos be expedited as it will curb pilferage of wheat as well as help in its storage through a modern method.
Shahbaz said that the measures taken by the government for stabilizing prices of essential items are yielding positive results, however, a lot is still to be done. He said that cabinet committee should play an active role for bringing down prices and visit vegetable markets and bazaars to review rates of essential commodities and take all necessary steps to keep the prices of necessary items within the reach of the common man.
