The Sindh government has imposed Section 144 in areas bordering Balochistan to avert illegal transportation of wheat outside the province and to nab elements involved in the activity.

Sindh Food Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar, in a statement on Sunday, warned the wheat dealers not to be involved in hoarding of the food commodity.

He asked them to immediately bring out the wheat stocks being held for sale at officially approved rates. In case of non-compliance, he warned, not only their stocks would be confiscated but they might be arrested too.

“All these decisions and measures are to stabilise wheat price in the province and to provide relief to the masses,” said Jam Mehtab.

He said the decision to restrict inter-provincial mobility of wheat was taken in the larger public interest. Wheat dealers must not be in any way involved in unauthorized transportation of wheat outside the provincial territories, he added.
