Fazlur Rehman, chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), on Sunday blamed the state institutions for not allowing the country to move on its chartered path of enforcement of Shariah in the country.
Addressing a public meeting, the cleric said the legislation was not being done in the country according to Shariah because the institutions were opposing it. During the election campaign, he said, they raised the slogan of peace and the dialogue process proved that their policies were in the right direction.
He criticised PTI Chairman Imran Khan, saying that it was not a big task to stop the NATO supplies through sit-ins. He said the JUI-F and in fact every political party in Pakistan could block the NATO supplies. He said the PTI was formed in the name of justice but questioned where the justice has gone.
About Imran Khan’s assertions that if his party failed to run the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, it would dissolve the assembly, Fazl said dissolution of assemblies was not democracy and said it was not an easy task to run the KP government. He said war for power between the centre and the provinces would only affect the people.
The cleric admitted that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan did not accept the constitution and Pakistani laws, adding that they only believed in Shariah while his party talks of Shariah within the limits of the constitution. He did not agree with the idea of the TTP who wanted to enforce Shariah through the power of gun.
Fazl announced to hold a tribal jirga in Peshawar on November 28 to put the dialogue process on track. He said the government and the TTP have extended their support for the jirga. He regretted that drone attack derailed the dialogue with Taliban. He said the JUI-F raised a strong voice for the rights of the provinces as compared to the so-called nationalists and that was why people were leaving the parties in government and joining the JUI-F.
He said, “Foreign forces are fanning sectarian tension which will have to be stopped as it is affecting our security and teachings of Islam.”
