No one can be allowed to plunder national coffers: CJP

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has remarked that “corruption culture was promoted by hampering investigation process in NICL case and we can not allow any one to plunder national wealth.”

The Supreme Court (SC) while rendering decision in NICL mega corruption case Friday ordered for initiation of action immediately against former minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim, NAB chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Nargis Sethi, Suleman Ghani, Ismail Qureshi and others.

Decision was pronounced by a 3-member bench of SC headed by CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

The SC ordered for registration of cases against NAB chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry and federal tax ombudsman for impeding investigation process in this case. Director FIA Lahore Waqar Haider also created hindrances in the to investigation. Investigation of this case will be handed over to NAB besides being charged with making all the recoveries involved in this scam as soon as possible, court further ordered.

The court directed NAB to bring back Amin Qasim Dada, Mohsin Warraich and Khalid Anwar to country immediately.

The decision further said that former secretary establishment Abdul Rauf and Qamar Zaman will be indicted later. Former secretary Khushnood Lashari did not appear in the court despite contempt of court notice.
The court also declared the appointment of former chairman of NICL, Ayyaz Khan Niazi illegal.

It was stated in clear terms in the decision that all the persons who were involved in the case misused their powers. Rs 420 million were recovered during the tenure of former FIA chief Zafar Qureshi and no recovery was made after his retirement. Zafar Qureshi was kept away from the investigation deliberately.
