The city administration on Thursday challaned 138 retailers, jailed two for profiteering and overcharging the consumers and imposed a fine of worth Rs 2,36,700.
The crackdown initiated on the directives of the Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui and was carried out by the assistant commissioners and sub divisional magistrates across the city.
The officials in Orangi Town also jailed two shopkeepers for being repeatedly violating officially issued price list.
Those challaned included 84 green grocers, 19 milk sellers, five fruit sellers, 18 grocers, eight chicken sellers and four flour millers.
