Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Shaukatullah Khan on Tuesday said Pakistan wanted peace in war-torn Afghanistan.
“We following Afghan let and Afghan own policy regarding Afghanistan,” Governor said while addressing a debate on post-2014 scenario in Peshawar.
The debate was arranged by the KP-FATA chapter of South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA).
Academicians such as Dr Adnan Sarwar Khan, Dr Sarfaraz and Dr Hussain Shaheed Suharwardi also spoke on the occasion.
Awami National Party leader Sardar Hussain Babak, Qaumi Watan Party leaders Hasham Babar and Mairaj Humayun Khan made brief comments on presentations and remarks of journalist Rahimullah Yousufzai.
Earlier, SAFMA President Shamim Shahid and Secretary General Farzana Ali welcomed the participants and explained objectives of the event.
“No one can disagree with the fact that situation of both Pakistan and Afghanistan are related to each others,” the governor said, adding that Pakistan was uncertain about post-NATO situation of Afghanistan. He also said that the region was the battleground where all of them were in favour of curbing violence and terrorism. On such grounds, Pakistan was struggling not only for peace and stability, but also for strengthening of the democratic process in Afghanistan, Khan said.
In the last 12 years, he said, Afghanistan’s infrastructure was developed but the country had no regular army. Being an immediate neighbour, Pakistan was doing its best to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan, the governor said.
The KP governor apprehended World War III-like situation if affairs of the region were not put on the right track. He said that they should initiate joint efforts for peace and stability in both Afghanistan and Pakistan.
