Rawalpindi violence another ‘drone strike’ to sabotage country’s defence: DPC

Pointing his fingers at some foreign forces for Rawalpindi unrest, Defence of Pakistan Council (DPC) chairman and chief of his own faction of the JUI, Samiul Haq on Monday termed the recent religious clash between sectarian groups on the eve of Ashura-e-Muharram in Rawalpindi a “ground drone strike”, and demanded the government expose the culprits involved in the killing of around 10 people instead of making statements to get media coverage.

Flanked by top leaders of DPC including Jamatud Dawa chief Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Liaquat Baloch, Ansarul Ummah chief Fazlur Rehman Khalil, former ISI director general Hameed Gul, and PML-Z chief Ijazul Haq, Haq told a press conference that the mosque in Rawalpindi was attacked under a well-conceived plan and the government should shift its focus on exposing the culprits.

“Pakistan is already at war… on one hand, we are being attacked by drones and on the other, several conspiracies are being hatched against Pakistan. While efforts were on to hold dialogue with the Taliban, Hakimullah Mehsud was killed in a drone strike which pushed us again into the war. We are trying to save the country from such conspiracies,” he added.

“If we do not observe restraint and keep indulging in violence, we will fulfil the designs of the enemy,” he said, and warned that the Rawalpindi incident was not less than a catastrophe which had breached the defence of the country.

“This was not a mere sectarian conflict. If this fire had not been controlled, it might have engulfed the whole of Pakistan. Despite the massacre, our party and other religious leaders wisely observed restraint. There are 25,000 madrassas of my party. But our leadership observed prudence,” he said, adding that the Punjab government was not serious in dealing with the matter.

The DPC chief, whose madrassa in Aora Khattak has provided base to the Taliban fighters since 1970s, said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had assured his party of a judicial probe into the matter. However, he argued, how could a system that could not hold former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf expose and bring to justice those involved in the Rawalpindi incident?

He urged the Punjab government to shift its focus on apprehending the culprits and expose the conspiracy rather than making hollow statements.

  1. These Taliban sympathizers are as bad as the JI…they are not interested in stopping the terrorists…they are only interested in blaming the west for what the terrorists are doing…if someone wants to find a conspiracy against Pakistan they should start with this group..

    • @kmk, Only honest incorruptible leaders can do what you are asking. Do we have any barring Imran Khan?

  2. Totally agree with him that Pakistan is already at war… on one hand, we are being attacked by drones and on the other, several conspiracies are being hatched against Pakistan. While efforts were on to hold dialogue with the Taliban, Hakimullah Mehsud was killed in a drone strike which pushed us again into the war. We are trying to save the country from such conspiracies. It is another drone strike to sabotage country defence.

  3. Basically US is leaving Afghanistan and they dont want peace in Pakistan so its their another way of drone strikes to sabotage Pakistan defence.

  4. The subsequent events to Rawalpindi terror attack suggest that PML N is involved in a sinister scheme of things like the Election Rigging (Dhandli). The sinister plan is unfolding slowly and Nisar's press conference about Musharraf trial is the second step. In the first step eleven lives were sacrificed. Reluctantly Nawaz and Family had to return as the plan seems to be firing backwards.
