The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday demanded the federal government immediately summon a National Assembly session to discuss the extremely acute security situation in the country in the wake of the Ashura violence in Rawalpindi which has begun spreading across the country.

The demand came in the wake of 10 deaths in sectarian clashes in Rawalpindi on the occasion of Ashura. The spill-over affect of the clashes also gripped others cities including Multan, Chishtian, Hangu and Kohat.

Addressing a press conference, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Central Information Secretary Shireen Mazari demanded an immediate session of the National Assembly to discuss the worsening security situation during Muharram.

“If the government is not prepared to call an immediate session of the NA, the PTI is already in touch with the opposition leaders to requisition it,” Qureshi said.

He also demands that the judicial commission instituted to look into the Rawalpindi incident should also widen its mandate to include other cities in the country where similar sectarian incidents have and are taking place at the behest of the enemies of Islam and Pakistan.
