Lahore Transport Company (LTC) Chairman Khawaja Ahmed Hassan on Sunday said that 200 more new CNG buses would be inducted into the existing fleet by the end of current year.
New buses being imported from Turkey and China will decrease commuters’ hardships besides resolving transport problem in the city, he said.
He said that the LTC was endeavoring to meet transport demand by the commuters and in this regard huge funds have already been allocated. He said, over 112 CNG air-conditioned buses were operated by a private transport company in Lahore.
Answering a question, the LTC chairman said that the Punjab government was in negotiation with the federal government to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to all CNG buses.
He said that two main bus terminals at railway station and JoharTown were working where repair and maintenance of CNG buses was being carried on regular basis.
On the fare issue, Khawaja Hassan said, at present Rs 16 and 31 in accordance with the government’s notified rates are being charged. He said working on electronic ticket system in public transport was also on the card.
