Rawalpindi incident an attempt to disrupt peace: political, religious chiefs

Many political and religious leaders have condemned the Rawalpindi incident and termed it as an attempt to disrupt peace and law and order situation in the country.

While condemning the tragedy, Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI-F) chief Fazl ur Rehman said that such an incident is a conspiracy to disrupt peace in the country, adding that the government should bring the culprits to justice.

Ahle Sunnat Wal Jammat (ASWJ) chief Mohammad Ahmed Ludhianvi and Jamiat Ulema Islam (Sami) (JUI-S) chief Sami Ul Haq also dubbed the incident as failure of the administration and demanded a thorough probe into the incident.

Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslameen also regretted the incident and said that the incident is a reflection of Punjab government’s failure.

Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi said that the incident is tragic and Punjab CM should take steps to normalise the situation.

Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid demanded a judicial probe into the incident, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain expressed his sorrow over the incident and demanded from the federal and Punjab government to take strict action against those involved in the incident and appealed to the public belonging from all sects to exhibit unity.

A curfew has been imposed in Rawalpindi after a sectarian clash broke out near a Muharram procession at Fawara Chowk of Raja Bazar on Friday, in which at least eight persons were killed and several injured.
