Our country was already facing multiple economic, social and security related challenges and now the current phenomenon of unchecked price-hike has made life worse for its people. Pakistani people are facing serious problems of food insecurity and the price-hike. Most of the people are living below poverty line. What adds to their agony is the recent inflation of food and other commodities in the past few years. The lower and middle class communities lack economic resources. They earn their bread and butter by putting in a lot of efforts. The growing rate of inflation is affecting their lives adversely. Provision of eatable goods takes priority, hence expenditure on family’s healthcare and education are forfeited to kitchen needs.
The prices of all commodities increased even more after the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) came in power. GST was increased, the prices of petrol, diesel, and eatables increased in a short time. Retail prices of most essential commodities, including sugar, rice, fruits, fresh milk, ghee, edible oil and vegetables have increased all over the country. A common man cannot even think of enjoying a good meal within his limited economic resources.
Vegetable prices, especially those which enjoy good demand like onion, tomato, ginger, garlic and many others are available at unaffordable price range. It seems like surviving in such an expensive era is impossible. The government should take some concrete steps in order to provide relief to its citizens.
