The Supreme Court (SC) has been approached for initiation of contempt of court proceedings against Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif for not registering high treason case under Article 6 of the constitution against former President Pervez Musharraf.
A petition in this regard has been filed by petitioner Ahsan ud Din Sheikh on Tuesday. Nawaz, the Interior Ministry, the FIA director general and former president Pervez Musharraf have been made respondents. The petition read that the attorney general (AG) had given a statement on June 26 in the court about registration of case against Musharraf under Article 6 and this statement was made part of its July 3 later. It was said that an FIA team would probe into this matter and the former president will be proceeded against under Article 6.
The petition also read that the PM had announced to form a commission for early conclusion of the inquiry. The federal government had lodged complaint under Section 5 of 1976 of Special Courts Act. The court had also ordered that all the matters be dealt with by the federal government in the light of statement given by it. No proceedings have been initiated against Musharraf even after 4 months of the court’s orders. It has been only learnt that an inquiry team has been constituted. However this committee has not moved forward even a single inch, petition added.
Talking to reporters, Sheikh said under a deal a safe passage was being provided to Musharraf to leave the country and he would soon go abroad.
“We have requested the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Nawaz Sharif under Article 204,” he added.
