Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch on Tuesday said that the performance of the government institutions and law enforcers was not satisfactory and they needed improvement.
Addressing a press conference at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, he said that there were shortcomings in institutions, including police, the Balochistan Constabulary and the Levies Force, adding that the intelligence system of the province also needed improvement and integrated coordination.
He said that although two incidents of abduction of citizens have been reported, adding that the law and order situation was better than the previous regime.
“If you compare the present law and order situation of Balochistan with five-year tenure of the previous government, you would find the present situation better than past,” he said.
He said that his government was making efforts to recover the missing persons and maintain peace and order.
“We are making hectic efforts to restore peace and our several law enforcement actions against the criminal mafia remained successful,” he said.
Referring to local bodies’ elections, he said that his government was ready to conduct the polls on December 7, following the orders of the Supreme Court.
“Despite the adverse law and order situation, my government was ready to conduct local government elections on December 7,” he said.
To a question, he said that he was bound to the decisions made by the central committee of his party, the National Party.
He said that it was right of the doctors to protest against the abduction of Dr Abdul Manaf Tareen. He, however, said that the government was working hard to recover him. He said that 200 policemen have got professional commando training.
To another question, the CM said that he was taking measures to address the financial problems of the University of Balochistan.
