Dengue pulls off another murder

A dengue victim kicked the bucket at Ittefaq Hospital on Monday while 57 dengue cases were reported in Punjab during the last 24 hours including 22 in the city.

With the death of a 20-year-old woman, Sharil, the total number of dengue-related deaths has reached 11 in Punjab besides 1,564 dengue affected cases have so far surfaced in the province.

Health Department Vector-borne Diseases Additional Director Dr Jaffer Ahmed said on Monday that teams of the anti-dengue squad were visiting door-to-door to eradicate dengue larvae, besides disseminating awareness of preventive measures against the virus. He said that anti-dengue teams had visited over 43,310 high-risk places, besides inspecting around 200,000 containers at different points.

“Despite the persistent presence of dengue mosquito, the overall situation is under control,” he added.

Over 495 teams comprising three persons each are active to inspect different areas of the city. Dr Jaffer said people should cooperate with larva hunting teams and use nets inside their houses besides keeping the environment clean and dry.
