The construction of a wall around ModelTown courts will start next week.

Talking to media on Sunday, Lahore Model Town Bar Vice President Irfan Basra said that the committee headed by Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik had approved the construction of the wall and it was also decided that that the Lahore High Court would bear its expenses.

He said that after committee’s approval the sessions judge and officials visited the premises last week and it was decided to start construction, as the provincial government land was sufficient for the purpose.

However, he said that four lawyers’ chambers would be affected by the construction but many options were being considered to resolve the problem.

He said that the sessions judge had ordered the construction and it was hoped that it would start next week.

Basra said that many untoward incidents including the killing of two under trial prisoners had taken place on the court premises due to lack of security. He said that a few police personnel could not ensure security in the absence of a boundary wall around the court premises.

He hoped that after the construction of the wall, installation of a security camera and walk-through gates, the problem would be resolved.  He said that the lawyers were cooperating with authorities concerned to address the problem.
