Sectarian killing mark Muharram’s beginning

As many as 13 people, including women, office-bearers of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) and the MQM were killed in the city.
According to a private TV channel, three activists of the ASWJ, Mufti Tariq, Mohammad Jan and Raza Gul and three supporters of the ASWJ Ayaz, Yar Muhammad and Ramzan were gunned down separately in DHA, Mehmoodabad and Korangi areas.
Deceased Mufti Tariq was a religious scholar, while Mohammad Jan was the prayer leader at the Muqaddas Masjid near Kala Pul. Raza Gul was a senior activist of the ASWJ.
Tariq and Yar Mohammad were gunned down in the Mehmoodabad locality, Gul was shot dead in Korangi as were Ramzan and Ayaz, while Jan was gunned down in DHA.
An unidentified body was recovered from Nasir Colony and has been transferred to Jinnah Hospital.
Hussain was kidnapped, tortured and assassinated in Baldia Town. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
MQM workers Nadeem alias Tony was killed and another worker Farhan was injured in Orangi Town.
The tortured bodies of a couple, identified as Raees and his wife Shehzadi, were recovered from a water tank of a house in Faisal Mohalla in Orangi Town. The two were strangled.
Abdul Razaq was assassinated in a shootout by unidentified men in Nasir Jump at Korangi.
Bullet-riddled bodies of two women were recovered. The bodies were identified as mother and a daughter from a house close to the new Sabzi Mandi in the jurisdictions of Sohrab Goth police station. The bodies have been transferred to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Ahsan was killed in Ittehad Town.
Separately, Rangers and police arrested 31 suspects during targeted operation in Karachi.
In a separate development, police arrested three target killers after an encounter in Maripur area. Those arrested were identified as Anjum alias Sohail, Sharfuddin alias Sharfu and Ali alias Shabu.
According to police, the arrested target killers were involved in killing of 30 people.
Police also arrested two extortionists during raids in Orangi Town and Maripur.
On the other hand, Rangers and police arrested four target killers during a joint operation in Sohrab Goth.
Meanwhile, Karachi police chief Shahid Hayat said a “conspiracy is being hatched to fan Sunni-Shia clashes in the city” as gunmen shot dead five Sunnis a day after six Shias were killed.
“We have identified the shooters and will arrest the killers within a couple of days,” Hayat told a delegation of local businessmen.
