KP CM urges police to heighten security during Muharram

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has asked the Home and Police Department to focus on improving the law and order in the province.
The CM said the protection of life, property and honour of the people was the prime responsibility of the government. He underlined the need of setting a well- conceived security environment of to keep a vigil on terrorists during Muharram.
He was presiding over a meeting about law and order. KP Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Chief Secretary Shehzad Arbab, Home Department Secretary Akhtar Ali Shah and Inspector General Nasir Khan Durrani were also present.
Khattak said the law and order and peace in the province could only be ensured when people coming to police stations were given priority like VIPs. He said that implementation process on police reforms should be expedited, forensic science laboratories should be established, CCTV cameras should be installed at important locations, sniffer dogs should be deployed with police personnel, intelligence networks should be more streamlined and police officials should be trained on modern lines.
The officials assured the CM that all directives have been pursued with seriousness and concrete steps have been taken in this regard.
The meeting also discussed a security plan and decisions were taken. It was also decided to separate the security arrangements for jails across the province.
The home secretary and the IG told the CM that the recommendations and decisions of the provincial and divisional task forces on law and order were being implemented and were yielding encouraging results. It was revealed that the city has been divided into various parts and the police and intelligence network has been streamlined wherein targeted operations have been started and a number of criminals, proclaimed offenders, terrorists and other suspected elements were arrested.
Khattak expressed satisfaction over the progress made so far in this regard. He lauded role of police for sacrificing their lives to ensure peace in the province. However, he said that giving respect to the citizens should be the sole principle to restore confidence of the people in the Police Department and thus muster public sympathies and support to combat anti-state and anti-social elements as well as expose terrorists. He also expressed the confidence that security would be heightened during Muharram to enable the people to solemnise the rituals of Ashur in a peaceful atmosphere.
