Expressing resentment over the negative remarks of Chief Minister Pervez Khattak against opposition parties and their MPAs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, the opposition has termed it against the assembly’s and provincial politics’ precedents.
“Through such negative, immature and immoral statement, the chief minister has exposed his confusion before the people,” remarked acting opposition leader Awami National Party’s (ANP) Sardar Hussain Babak during a press conference on Tuesday. Flanked by Jamiat Ulema-i- Islam’s Lutfur Rahman and Munawar Khan, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Aurangzeb Nalotha, Pakistan Peoples Party’s Nighat Yasmeen Aurakzai and ANP’s Mian Jaffar Shah, Gohar Shah and Yasmeen Peer Khan, Babak said they will not extend any sort of cooperation to the government.
Sardar Babak informed that the provincial government, a few days back, issued letters to them regarding release of Rs 30 million for MPAs’ identified schemes and projects. But later they received revised letters slashing the amount to Rs 10 million. On such grounds, they had demanded the chief minister explain government’s position on the matter.
The opposition leader said that instead of explaining the government’s position in a polite and decent way, Pervez Khattak went on leveling allegations against opposition parties. “The chief minister in his negative remarks made an attempt of damaging the image of opposition parties,” Sardar Babak remarked, saying that not a single opposition member in the previous government complained about former chief minister Amir Haider Khan, who treated all elected MPs equally.
Answering to a question, the opposition MPs said the chief minister is under tremendous pressure as he is receiving dictations from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on one hand and on the other hand high ranking civil and police officers are “reluctant to serve”. Sardar Babak said almost all grade 19 to 21 officers are refusing to serve in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. There exists a wide unrest among the PTI ministers and MPAs. Similarly Qaumi Watan Party’s ministers and MPs are boycotting all government meetings and activities.
The opposition parliamentarians said that there is no need for agitation or movement against the Pervez Khattak led provincial government as people will see its collapse in a couple of months. The ANP leader alleged that Pervez Khattak is not only habitual of changing of loyalties but even he created divisions in his parties. Similar will be the fate of PTI, he cautioned and asked the PTI leaders to remain alert in this respect.
