Of the boy who cried Zardari…

Former president Asif Zardari’s scheduled arrival in Lahore and Karachi later this month has been postponed for the time being, party sources revealed.

Earlier, it was reported in the section of press that former president Zardari will touch down in Lahore on October 30 and face litigation against him in the courts. According to these reports he will stay in Lahore and meet party leaders to discuss local bodies’ polls and cases pending against him.

But the party sources disclosed that the possibility of PPP’s top leader’s visit to Pakistan in near future was some what unconfirmed. PPP leadership in contact with Zardari are not sure when the former president will be able to travel to the country next.

Most likely he will visit Pakistan at the time of next death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto later this year, informed a senior PPP leader.

It is pertinent to mention here that an accountability case in Rawalpindi would resume hearing of graft cases against Zardari on today (Tuesday). The court has issued summon directly to Zardari expecting him to appear in person. But latest schedule of Zardari showed that it would not be possible for him to appear before the court in person at least for the time being. His lawyers say that they would defend former president in the court as there was not much in the cases.

Zardari last visited Pakistan on the occasion of Eidul Azha when he went to both Larkana and Karachi. After spending Eid he left for Dubai with Bilawal Bhutto. Zardari is currently spending most of his time in Dubai. Party leaders cited security threats as main reason for his stay in Dubai.
