Punjab IGP, Lahore CCPO for foolproof security arrangements for Muharram
139,977 to be deployed for processions and majalis at mosques, madrassas, imambargahs
In the wake of security threats this Muharram, the police are taking unprecedented security arrangements with the deployment of 139,977 police officers across Punjab, said Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khan Baig while addressing the Regional Police Officers (RPOs) Conference at the Central Police Office (CPO) on Sunday.
Lahore CCPO Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmed, Punjab Additional IG (Investigation) Muhammad Amlish, DIG (Operations) Farooq Mazhar and Acting DIG (Operations) Rana Abdul Jabbar along with RPOs from across Punjab were present on this occasion.
As per details, at least 78,937 policemen, 14,200 officials of the Punjab Constabulary and Elite Police Force, 21,373 personnel of the reserved force, 15,969 Quami Razakars, and 9,498 officials of the special force would be deployed on security duties. The count includes 305 gazetted officers, 1,066 inspectors, 3,638 sub inspectors, 6,241 ASIs, 6,747 head constables, and 60,940 constables.
These officers and officials will be deployed in 880 areas declared as sensitive places besides providing security cover to 9,757 processions, and 37,740 majalis to be held in Punjab. The police will be also deployed around mosques, madrassas, and imambargahs.
It was decided in the conference that apart from CCTV cameras and metal detectors, walk-through gates would also be installed at the entry and exit points of the procession routes. The police will also ensure strict monitoring of the elements involved in spreading sectarianism and provocative material. The misuse of loudspeakers will not be tolerated and the activities of the banned clerics would also be monitored closely.
The IGP also directed the officers to properly check the gas-shells, rubber-bullets, and water-guns in case any untoward situation erupts anywhere. The units of Pakistan Army and Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) would also remain on-call to help local law enforcing agencies in case of any serious situation.
The policemen from the Punjab Constabulary would also be sent to all the districts of the Punjab province and in this regard at least 38 reserve platoons from Farooqabad, 28 platoons from Police Training College Lahore, 54 from Police College Sihala, 4 from the police training schools Rawalpindi, 6 from police training school Sargodha, 9 from Police Training School, Farooqabad, 52 from Elite police training center Badian Road Lahore, 22 platoons from the Tele-and-Transport Punjab and 2 platoons from the Investigations Branch Punjab would be sent to all the districts across the province.
In order to further improve the law and order situation in the Punjab province, it was also decided in the conference that the police would intensify the crackdown on the proclaimed offenders. It was also decided that history sheets of the top ten criminals will be completed within next three weeks.
As usual arrangement,but these officials conveniently forget that these emergency meetings and arrangement mechanisms are not for media disclosures and clearly shows that they are unaware about sstandard operating procedure(sop).
