Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Saturday said that the United States has dismissed Prime Minister Nawaz Shareef’s appeal to intervene in the Kashmir issue.

He said that the issues between New Delhi and Islamabad must be resolved through the composite dialogue. Khurshid further said it is sad that the dialogue between the two Asian neighbours had to be suspended because of Mumbai attacks and continued incidents on the Line of Control (LOC).

He said India is confident about its relationship with the United States of America. India has explained to the United States that the issues between Pakistan and India must remain a bilateral issue as reflected in the Shimla agreement and must be resolved without third party’s intervention.

“But we are satisfied that the United States has understood Indian point of view and has taken a very clear and firm position on this,” he added.
