Pakistan while supporting the point of view of Saudi Arabia regarding the Security Council said on Saturday that it has always advocated an effective and feasible reform of the Security Council based on consensus among the members.
Foreign Office Spokesman Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry in a statement said the Security Council should be equitable, fair and democratic in nature.
The spokesman said Pakistan enjoyed close brotherly and friendly relations with Saudi Arabia. He said Pakistan fully understood the imperatives and compulsions which led to their decision not to join the Security Council after being elected to its non-permanent seat for the term 2014-2015.
The spokesman said Pakistan agrees with the Saudi Government that there should be forward movement and progress be made on all issues including Syria; Palestine and other long standing issues like Kashmir.
He said the Pakistani government had always supported efforts to ensure peaceful resolution of disputes and was confident that the KSA would continue to play its role in maintenance of international peace and security.
