The EarthquakeIsland surfaced as a result of an earthquake in Balochistan is now vanishing as predicted by oceanographers.
The mud island appeared in Balochistan’s waters near the Gwadar port about 250 miles from the epicenter of the earthquake attracted global curiosity, but scientists had forecasted that it would not last long and will disappear in a couple of months.
They said methane gas under the seafloor pushed up the big pile of mud. The island was about 70-feet high, 300-feet wide and 120-feet long. But fresh satellite images show that the island has now sunk up to 10 feet.
Samples collected by experts of the National Institute of Oceanography
(NIO) are being analysed as more facts about the island are likely to be unveiled next month.
