Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) central leader Naveed Chaudhry expressing his fears of local government elections’ delay in Punjab said that that Punjab government wanted to rule the masses through bureaucracy.
While addressing a press conference on Tuesday at the Lahore Press Club, he said they wanted the present government to complete its five-year constitutional term as the party believed in strengthening democracy. However, he added that the present rulers have made impossible for poor and middle class to survive by escalating prices of daily essential items.
The PPP leader coming hard on Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) said that instead of changing the circumstances for laymen in the country by making revolutionary public-friendly steps, government has changed itself entirely. All the promises made by PML-N leaders in the manifesto and election campaigns have proved merely shallow slogans. Naveed said that they were playing role of friendly opposition but not at the cost of public interest. He categorically said that if the political turmoil swelled, his party would not remain silent. They would go with public opinion and come on roads against the government, he added. He alleged that Hamza Shahbaz was running the province’s affairs as a ‘shadow chief minister’.
Regarding prime minister’s visit to the US, PPP leader said that it was merely a photo session, otherwise rulers have completely bowed down in front of Americans and IMF.
He said the speech made by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was being criticised without any reason. Regarding remarks attributed to Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, he said Khan has proved himself as ‘buzdil khan’ (coward Khan) as the situation regarding terrorism and law and order had further deteriorated in KPK.
Naveed said that on Wednesday, there will be anniversary of late PPP Chairperson Nusrat Bhutto who did serve democracy by struggling against dictators.
