AI report lends support to Benazir Bhutto’s stance: Raza Rabbani

PPP central leader senator Raza Rabbani has said although Amnesty International report has been released late, it is still a good omen as it lends support to Benazir Bhutto’s stance.

He said this while addressing a press conference here in parliament house Wednesday. He asked Nawaz Sharif to raise the issue of drone strikes on every forum during his visit to US.

He went on to say that a committee had been constituted to initiate proceedings against former president Pervez Musharraf under article 6 of the constitution. This committee should review the statement given by Pervez Musharraf wherein he had stated he had allowed drone strikes in Pakistan, he added.

He alleged that even after completion of 145 days in power, the incumbent government has failed to pass a single bill in parliament. “It seems as if government wants to run the matters through executive orders, bypassing the parliament.”

He added that the government should take the parliament on board with reference to continued violations of the LoC by India, anti-terrorism moves, situation in Afghanistan, dialogue with Taliban, Prime Minister’s visit to US, agreement with IMF and the privatization of state entities . All these matters should be discussed in the meeting of the National Security Council, he stressed.
