The Afghan Taliban have urged Pakistan to clarify its position regarding the whereabouts of Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.
Through a statement issued from an undisclosed place on Sunday, Afghan Taliban spokesmanon Zabihullah Mujahid said, “Pakistan must clarify its position about Abdul Ghani Baradar.” Two days back, Mujahid in another statement alleged that Baradar was still in the custody of Pakistan.
Baradar’s release was formally announced by authorities on September 21. On the same day, officials also announced that he was shifted to a safer place in accordance with his wish.
Sources told Pakistan Today that a few days back Baradar was shifted to Peshawar. Later, he visited North Waziristan Agency and held a meeting with top commanders of the Haqqani network. He was said to have exchanged views on peace process in both Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Taliban spokesman issued the statement after Baradar’s secret visit to North Waziristan.
In January 2010, Baradar was arrested by security agencies in Karachi when he was planning to hold talks with Pakistan-based Afghan Taliban, especially the members of Quetta Shura.
At that time, the Afghan government had not denounced his arrest, but accused Islamabad of creating obstacles in peace process in Afghanistan.
It seems that this time the Afghan Taliban are not only divided regarding peace process, but some of them are not happy with Pakistan.
