SHC to hear contempt petition against Nawaz on 14th

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Saturday announced that it would hear a petition seeking to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on October 14.

A civil rights campaigner, Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi approached the SHC seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against the prime minister for reportedly using contemptuous language against Karachi judges.

Naqvi stated that Nawaz’ statement that “even judges were afraid of making decisions in Karachi” during a visit to Peshawar was contemptuous.

He claimed the prime minister used contemptuous language against Karachi judges, therefore he did not fulfill the requirements of articles 62 and 63 of the constitution.

Naqvi said such a statement was tantamount to disgracing the judges and it comes within the ambit of the contempt of court.

He requested the court to disqualify Nawaz as a member of the National Assembly (MNA) and prime minister of Pakistan and initiate contempt proceedings against him.

Accepting the petition, the court said it would hear it on October 14.
