Govt forms committee to probe magnetic ink allegations

A committee formed on Friday would seek help from Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR), Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) to probe into allegations about the use of substandard ink and pads during elections.
The federal secretary for science and technology constituted the committee on the directives of Federal Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid.
According to the allegations, magnetic ink pads were provided to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) during the general elections. The committee will find out whether magnetic ink pads supplied were in line with the specifications given by the ECP. The committee is to submit a report in 22 days time.
Abdul Haleem Asghar who is the joint electronics adviser of the Ministry of Science and Technology would serve as chairman of the committee.
Shahzad Alam who is the director general of PCSIR Labs Complex will act as member while Najamuddin who is the deputy director general of PNAC will serve as member/secretary of the committee.
