A local court on Friday approved a plea seeking a 14-day judicial remand for former military ruler Gen (rtd) Pervez Musharraf in the murder case of Lal Masjid cleric Abdul Rasheed Ghazi.

However, the court exempted the former dictator, who remains under house arrest in his Chak Shehzad villa, from personal appearance due to security reasons.

Musharraf was arrested upon his return on charges related to his period in office, including the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, veteran Baloch leader Nawaz Akbar Khan Bugti and Abdul Rasheed Ghazi.

He is also facing trial in a case for deposing judges.
