The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has rejected the nomination of Chaudhry Qamar Zaman as National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman owing to the fact that the party was not consulted in this regard.
Talking to reporters on Tuesday, PTI spokesperson Shireen Mazari said her party was never consulted over the appointment of the NAB chairman, adding that the PTI would challenge the nomination by the prime minister and the opposition leader.
Shireen was of the view that Zaman was a government servant and was ineligible for any public office until after his retirement in 2015.
She said the name of Rana Baghwandas was dropped for the same reason therefore Zaman’s appointment was not justified. “The appointment of Qamar Zaman will be against the law and the PTI will move the Supreme Court against it,” she added.
Earlier, Leader of the Opposition Khursid Shah claimed that he had contacted PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi twice asking for his suggestion on the appointment of NAB chief but the PTI did not suggest any names.
The half-hearted attempt by Khurshid Shah to consult his parliamentarian colleagues shows lack of ethics on his part and exposes his hankering for a "muk-maka" (a dishonest deal) with Nawaz Sharif. Let us hope our media will expose and uncover the cunning "Gath-jod" behind this agreement and the failure of the two leaders to adhere to moral principles.
