The stance of Taliban militants regarding attacks on Christian churches is contrary to the teachings of Islam, leading Islamic clerics belonging to different schools of thought said on Saturday, as they urged the government to launch an operation against the terrorists.
“Taliban’s view point that attacks on churches is in line with the principles of Islam is totally wrong and against the teaching of Islam,” said the clerics in a joint-statement. Taliban were depicting a negative picture of Islam just to defame the peaceful religion, they said.
The spokesperson for the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Shahidullah Shahid, had claimed that a recent attack on a church in Peshawar was carried out in accordance with Shariah laws and that neither the TTP nor any of its umbrella groups were behind the twin suicide blasts.
Nazim-i-Aala Jamia Naeemia Maulana Raghib Hussain Naeemi, Chief of Pakistan Sunni Tehreek Sarwat Ijaz Qadri, President National Mushaikh Council Pir Khawaja Ghulam Qutubuddin, President Khairul Ummam Foundation Pir Karamat Ali, Vice President Tahafuz Namoos-e-Rasalat Mahaz Allama Pir Athar Qadri and President Islamic Research Council Pakistan were among those who issued the joint-statement.
The September 23rd attack on All Saints church in the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, that killed more than 100 and injured at least 130, is believed to be the deadliest ever to target the country’s small Christian minority.
The clerics urged the government to launch an operation against the terrorists who caused irreparable loss to both Islam and Pakistan. “They (Taliban) don’t deserve any leniency,” said the statement.
The Pakistani government, however, was still keen to pursue dialogue with local Taliban militants despite a spate of bloody attacks in the country’s northwest, Sartaj Aziz, adviser on national security and foreign affairs to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday. He said talks should be given a chance.
The TTP, which has waged a bloody insurgency against the Pakistani state since 2007, has issued stringent conditions for its participation in talks, including the release of its cadres from jail, withdrawal of troops from the tribal areas along the Afghan border and an end to US drone strikes in Pakistan.

  4. My friends be fair in your comments. In fact Muslims do consider other religions as thrash and calls them for conversion no matter if not through peaceful means then by any means. Founder of the nation knew all this and this was the reason he considered religion as a private business between a believer whom ever he believed or followed as his ultimate goal. We should go back and search history of all religions. Each religion wants to follow their brand of thought and tolerance to some extent including all existing faiths and religions and this is the main reason that now people all around the world are only following one religion as that is of Humanity and Love for each other minus hate of all kind. In early days of each religion people were forced to convert through different tactics but now in this century and later this will not work and people should be allowed to have their own beliefs and faith but in a peaceful co-existence way. Remember we will all be judged through our deeds and not bloodshed.

  5. Islam means peace. The Taliban & other extremist have twisted the meaning of Islam and they are destroying Islam's true nature in the eyes of so many around the world. It is very important that Islamic Leaders release statements and speak out condemning these attacks so that people can practice their faith in a peaceful co-existing way. I say "bravo" to these brave Islamic Leaders in Pakistan and they have my blessings. When Taliban militants try justifying these attacks on churches by twisting the very principles of Islam, it is not just against the teaching of Islam but far worst— it insults the very fabric of what the Quran stands for. Islam is peace, compassion & love for all people. Muslims should not be killing other Muslims either or anybody else. Pakistan gave the Taliban a chance to negotiate but what did they do instead? They did not respect Ramadan, killed innocent people, bombed Mosque, churches & other historical/religious sites. The Taliban Extremists don't deserve any leniency. The Pakistani Government needs to protect their people, the historical & cultural integrity of their country— their unique homeland.
