KP govt to ban collection of hides and donations

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is considering to ban hardliner religious outfits from collecting hides and donations on upcoming Eid.
Pakistan Today learnt through sources that the Home and Tribal Affairs Department has prepared a list of at least 49 organisations and groups involved in collection of hides and donations on religious celebrations. Most of these groups are collecting donations and hides under the garb of welfare.
The official said that in the past some of these groups had collected donations for jihad. Some of them were linked with militant organisations which were banned and kept under surveillance by former president Pervez Musharraf in January 2002. However, the groups later changed names and were collecting donations and hides.
According to the official, after getting approval from KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and the chief secretary, the Home and Tribal Affairs Department would issue a formal notification and would direct the district and divisional administration for implementation of the decision.
Besides others the Jamaat Islami, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf also collect donations and hides on Eidul Azha.
