Even as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh in New York, Indian troops were engaged in a gunfight to clear Pakistani troops who had “occupied a ghost village” along the Line of Control (LoC), the Indian media reported on Wednesday.

India’s CNN-IBN news channel quoting sources reported that fighting was still taking place in the village of Shala Bhata.

The report alleged that the Pakistani irregulars and special force personnel were reportedly using abandoned houses as cover to fire at Indian soldiers.

However, denying that the Pakistan Army had occupied a village along the LoC, the Indian Army said, “In the said area an infiltration bid was attempted last week by terrorists which was foiled by the (Indian) army. In fact search operations are still on. Details of this operation had earlier been shared by army authorities.”

According to the channel, this was the first time since the 2001-2002 near-war that Pakistani troops have allegedly held territory in India. The incident reportedly took place on the night of September 23 when a routine troop rotation was happening on the Indian side of the LoC.

Shala Bhata is a strategic point that overlooks Pakistan’s main line of communication to the northern stretches of the LoC.

  1. The question here arises:
    1. Either a complete brigade of Pak Army has moved into kashmir to fight or
    2. Indian Army is so pathetic that they are fighting with a handful of freedom fighters for more than a week now.
