Pakistani and Afghan lawmakers on Wednesday vowed to press their governments to adopt measures to resolve mutual issues, to remove trust deficit and to bring closer both the neighboring countries.
Addressing a joint press conference after concluding the 10th round of two-day Pakistan-Afghanistan Parliamentarians Dialogue, MNA Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, flanked by Mirwais Yasini visiting Afghanistan’s first deputy speaker of the Wolesi Jirga, declared the talks pleasant, productive and useful.
While briefing media, Sherpao said lawmakers from both sides reached a consensus in resolving the mutual issues and to remove the existing trust deficit.
He said MPs from both countries agreed on enhancing people-to-people contact, to end blame games and mistrust, to force their parliaments to play pro-active role in over-sighting and redressing issues, to adopt effective measures to curb terrorism, to develop an understanding based environment between Pakistan and Afghanistan in post-US scenario.
Sherpao said lawmakers from both countries agreed that relevant friendship groups in the respective parliaments should be facilitated to lead the dialogue process to improve bilateral ties, adding that next meeting would take place in the Parliament House.
Terming it a tremendous opportunity, visiting Afghan First Deputy Speaker Mirwais Yasini expressed his desire to enhance people-to-people contact between the two countries. Expressing his grief on recent quake Balochistan and bombings in Peshawar, he offered condolences to the affected families, adding, “Afghan MPs condemn recent Peshawar blasts and terrorism in the region.”
To a question over release of Mullah Baradar, he termed it a positive sign.
