The Khyber Pakhtonkhaw government told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that the provincial government didn’t know about the project.
The representative of the KPK government was giving his account in the Margalla Hills Tunnel suo-moto case in the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Reports have emerged that Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz led federal government is planning a new city in the suburb of Islamabad for which a tunnel passing through the iconic Margalla Hills is to be constructed. If created, the city will be situated within the jurisdiction of Khyber Pakhtunkwa province.
Emphasizing on the reality of the Margalla Hills Tunnel and a new city in the suburbs of the capital, Pakistan Muslim League-Q General Secretary Mushahid Hussain Syed says that Nawaz Sharif has even discussed the matter in the United States.
The reports have stirred the political and environmental activists who say that the project would destroy the natural beauty of the city.
Giving his side of story in the case, former bureaucrat Ruidad Khan says National Highway Authority (NHA) is concealing the facts about the project.
Commenting on the issue, Chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry says NHA reveals the project was not approved despite being discussed.
