The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday rebutted news reports that local government elections cannot be held during the current year.
It was reported quoting the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in both the print and electronic media that the local government elections are not possible during this year.
The ECP clarified that the reports published and telecast by the print and electronic media were totally incorrect and not based on facts as no such official statement was issued by it.
When contacted, an ECP official said that the commission had not issued any such statement. It is ready to conduct polls as soon as provinces complete preparations, he added.
“Holding of LG elections is based on the preparedness of provinces. Therefore, there is no reason to attribute reports about delay or not holding the election, to the commission,” the official said.
