The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned the hearing into the Intelligence Bureau (IB) secret funds case for one week.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Jawwad S Khwaja and Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard the case regarding the usage of IB secret funds to topple the Punjab government in 2008.

During the proceedings, former IB director general Col (r) Iqbal Niazi and Major (r) Fareed Jadoon filed their confidential replies before the court.

The SC kept the replies secret and directed the attorney general for Pakistan to go through the replies in the Registrar’s Office.

AG Munir A Malik said funds worth Rs 400 million had been withdrawn from the secret funds of IB, however adding that it would be premature to say what these funds were used for.

The court observed that in a reply filed by Asad Kharal, it was alleged that a famous columnist and journalist was awarded Rs 3 million from the IB’s secret funds at that time.

The SC also directed the former IB DG to go through the application filed by Kharal and file a para-wise reply.

Later, the court adjourned further proceedings for one week.
