Balochistan quake victims get help from home and abroad

The Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for the Balochistan earthquake victims is receiving donations from home and abroad which shows the concern of all Pakistanis for the well-being of their Baloch brethren.

The Punjab government has taken the lead by donating Rs 100 million to the fund.

Immediately after the quake, PM Nawaz Sharif had announced a relief package of Rs 100 million for the victims, besides issuing orders for rescue and relief operations.

The government has also reinforced anti-terrorist forces in the quake-hit areas to provide security to the relief workers.

Federal Minister Abdul Qadir Baloch and state ministers Abdul Hakeem Baloch and Jam Kamal are supervising the relief activities.

The National Distaster Management Authority has despatched 8,505 food packs, 10,335 tents, 5,800 blankets, 300 mosquito nets, 3,900 water bottles, three tonnes of miscellaneous food items and 1,700 plastic mats to the affected areas. The NDMA has also taken measures to control an epidemic in the region.

China has sent three flights carrying relief assistance, including medicines, emergency medical equipment, water purifiers, blankets and tents for the quake victims.

8 TRUCKS OF RELIEF GOODS LOOTED:

Unidentified miscreants on Sunday snatched eight truckloads of relief goods sent for the earthquake-stricken people of District Awaran.

According to details, 14 trucks loaded with relief goods were being sent to the Gujjar Bazaar area of Awaran under the supervision of the Levies Force when unidentified armed men snatched eight trucks at Nokjo.

The remaining six trucks reached the destination and relief goods were distributed among the quake victims.

Separatists are active in the quake-affected areas of Balochistan where they attack relief teams and military helicopters.

ARMY SETS UP DONATION COLLECTION CAMPS FOR QUAKE VICTIMS:

Inter Service Public Rations spokesman said on Sunday that the army, on the directives of Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and 10 Corps Commander Lieutenant General Qamar Javed Bajwa, has set up two camps in Islamabad for collecting donations for the quake-hit people of Balochistan.

People have been requested to donate generously at the camps established at Polo Ground Mall Road, Rawalpindi Cantonment and F9 Park Gate 1 Margalla Road, Islamabad.

PDMA DESPATCHES RELIEF GOODS

According to the Provincial DMA‚ Tehsil Mashkay‚ Awaran and Jhaho of District Awaran and Tehsil Hoshab of District Kech have been hit hard by the two earthquakes, which occurred within one week, killing 375 people and injuring 825.

The PDMA has despatched 153 trucks carrying 14,805 tents, 6,625 blankets‚ 18,390 packets of food‚ 3000 plastic mats‚ 600 sleeping bags and other necessary items to the quake-hit areas.
