Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Friday reiterated Pakistan’s stance that drone strikes violated international law.
Speaking at a high-level meeting at the UN Security Council, Aziz said Pakistan’s stance on the issue was that drone strikes violated international law‚ including international humanitarian law‚ and were also detrimental to collective efforts to fight terrorism.
He said drone strikes cause deaths of civilians‚ including women and children, adding that drone strikes had a serious impact on psycho-social health of children.
Aziz also underscored the need for a comprehensive and integrated approach in addressing issues related to small arms and light weapons.
He called for a more active role of the Security Council in resolution of outstanding disputes.
