NandiPur power plant to start generation in 2014

The Sub-Committee of Senate Standing Committee on Water and Power on Thursday was informed that the first unit of 425-525 MW Nandi Pur Power Project would start generation in May 2014. The Senate body which met with Moula Baksh Chandio in the chair reviewed reasons for Nandi Pur Project cost escalation and details of clearing Rs480 billion circular debt. Briefing the committee, Managing Director Nandipur Power Project Muhammad Mehmood said that project would take 16 months for completion and it would fully be operational by December 2014. He said that physical work on the project site had already begun and it would cost around Rs.56 billion. Sharing the details of the project, he said that the plant would generate 425 MW if run with furnace oil and 525 MW with gas. He said that the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) had approved the project in December 2007 and although its scheduled completion time was 2011, the project was delayed and would now be completed in December 2014.
