Members of the National Assembly (NA) adopted a unanimous resolution on Friday recommending the federal and provincial governments to arrest the suspects of the recent rape cases in Lahore and Tharparkar.
The resolution also called for amendments in the law so that rapists of minors could get exemplary punishment.
In a joint resolution, State Minister for Information Technology (IT) and Telecommunications Anusha Rehman said, “The recent cases of rape of a five-year-old girl in Lahore and a seven-year-old in Tharparkar have shocked the entire nation. It is most unfortunate that rape cases go unabated and culprits are not arrested.”
The NA members called upon the government to provide protection to the rape victims and to maintain privacy of the victims and their families.
The House also discussed another resolution regarding the establishment of parliamentary friendship groups with 88 countries. The resolution aimed to promote friendly relations between the Pakistani parliamentarians and elected representatives of other democratic countries.
