Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has demanded inclusion of jirga’s role in the proposed peace talks with the Taliban.

In a statement issued on Friday, Fazl reiterated that his party would not become part of dialogues for peace if the tribal jirga was not inducted in the process.

He claimed that entire nation had confidence in the tribal jirga’s role and chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan had also supported the JUI-F’s stance in this regard.

“Imran Khan is also keen to hold peace talks with the involvement of tribal jirga,” he maintained.

“We will participate in peace talks if jirga is given a role,” he added.
