Bomb blast in Peshawar claims 19 lives, leaves dozens injured

At least 17 people including two women were killed when a bomb exploded on a bus, carrying Civil Secretariat employees, at Charsadda Road.

According to the initial reports, a Civil Secretariat bus carrying around 70 employees and other passengers was steadily moving on its route when the blast occurred.

Around 44 people have been injured in the blast and were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar for treatment.

Commissioner Peshawar, Sahibzada Mohammad Anees confirmed the toll while talking to the media and said that the employees were returning home after completing their duties when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Police said the explosion was caused by a bomb planted inside the bus. The bomb disposal squad confirmed that approximately 6-8 kilograms of explosives were placed at the rear of the bus.

Police reached the blast site and cordoned off the area.

President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif have strongly condemned the bomb blast in Peshawar.

Expressing grief and sorrow over the loss of lives in the blast‚ they directed authorities to provide the best medical facilities to the injured persons.
