Miley stands up for Beiber

Miley Cyrus’ career choices may be confusing to some, but if one thing’s clear, it’s that she’s calling the shots. Perhaps that explains why the “Wrecking Ball” singer is mentoring fellow pop star Justin Bieber, whose transition from teen star to serious musician has also caused some controversy. In the Oct. 8 issue of Rolling Stone, Cyrus, 20, says she’s spent “a little bit” of time advising Bieber, 19. “I’m not much older than him, so I never want it to feel like I’m mentoring him. But I do mentor him in a way. Because I’ve been doing this shit for a long time, and I already transitioned, and I don’t think he’s quite done it yet,” she says. Cyrus believes the “Boyfriend” singer is “trying really hard” to change his image. “People don’t take him seriously, but he really can play the drums, he really can play guitar, he really can sing,” she says. “I just don’t want to see him f–k that up, to where people think he’s Vanilla Ice. I tell him that. Like, ‘You don’t want to become a joke. When you go out, don’t start s–t. Don’t come in shirtless.’ But the thing is, I think boys are, like, seven years behind. So in his head, he’s really, like, 12.” Despite their varying levels of maturity, the singers can agree on at least one thing: they both love to twerk. In fact, Cyrus and Bieber collaborated with rapper Lil Twist on a track called “Twerk” that leaked in late August.
