NA informed that corruption will not be tolerated at any cost

The National Assembly was informed on Wednesday that corruption will not be tolerated at any cost and the government has introduced a proper procedure to keep this menace in check.

Minister of State for Education and Trainings, Muhammad Balighur Rehman told the House during question hour that government will ensure appointment of good reputed officers and their performance will be monitored for inefficiency. The attitude and performance of officers will be reviewed on quarterly basis.

Answering a question‚ the Minister of State said the circular debt has surged up to 100 billion rupees‚ however‚ the production of electricity has increased. He said not a single IPP is non-functional at this time.

He said there is no conditionality in the IMF agreement wherein we committed to devalue Pakistani rupee. He said dollar’s rate is linked with the inter-bank market. The government has paid off seven million dollars to IMF whereas it has received 545 million dollars since the installment of the new government.

Mr. Balighur Rehman said in the current fiscal year government has to pay off three billion dollars while it will receive 2.25 billion dollars from IMF
“The government has not placed any cuts on the educational budget instead the HEC budget has unprecedentedly been increased up to 58 billion rupees.”

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told the House that his resolve is to ensure the security of federal capital through CCTV cameras and modern technology. He said if government succeeds in establishing an effective control and command system with trained staff then there will be no need for any check-posts. He said there are around 1100 spots where CCTV cameras can be installed.

Mr. Nisar said that it was unfortunate that Pakistan has become a conduit for the transmission of narcotics. “Drugs and illegal immigrations are serious issues and his department is working on it. Honest and well reputed people will be appointed in the FIA and ANF.”

Regarding the security of Parliament lodges‚ the Minister ensured that private guards will be banned from entering the lodges.
Replying to the point of order raised by Makhdoom Javed Hashmi‚ Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan assured the House to hold inquiry into misuse of funds withdrawn from exchequer on his name.

He informed the House that during the previous government’s tenure‚ the exchequer had been misused and money was withdrawn under the umbrella of discretionary‚ secrete and earthquake rehabilitation funds. He said that the present government has institutionalized all these funds to prevent the misuse of money.
