After a short stint at the nets, Alviro Petersen, still padded-up, sat in one corner, away from his teammates, Indian media reported on Wednesday. Despite leading Highveld Lions in CLT20, Petersen insists his loyalties lie with the classical form of the game.
At a time when his focus must be shifting towards India’s likely short tour, he says there are greater issues in life of which cricket is not a part of.
At 32, batsmen, while at their peak, chart out plans for playing at least five more years. Petersen, on the other hand, is contemplating retirement from international cricket.
“Sometime I will have to call it time on my international cricket. We will know in the near future. I may only play domestic cricket for a couple of years,” reveals Petersen, who announced himself in Test cricket with a century on debut against India at Eden Gardens in 2010.
“Cricket is not the most important thing in life. It is not at all important; there are so many more things,” he says.
And as long as Petersen plies his trade at the highest level of the game, he wants to do so only in whites.
“I’m pretty happy not to play ODIs, I’m happy to play Tests. If it was my choice, I’d play Tests rather than the shorter forms. I’m looking to focus on that in the near future,” Petersen, finally recalled to the ODI set-up last month after a gap of more than a year, proclaimed.
“I’m bound contractually to play any format,” he said.
