Some relief offered by NEPRA: Power Tariff reduced by 32paisas

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has notified the reduction in power tariff by 32 paisas per unit.

NEPRA sold 9.5 billion units to the consumers during the month of August and subsequently it has decided to slash cost of per unit electricity by paisas 32.

The reduction has been allowed under Fuel Adjustment Surcharge (FAS) for the month of August.

The relief will be provided to consumers through the electricity bills for the month of October.

The reduced tariff will not apply to Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) and the agriculture and domestic consumers using electricity less than 50 units per month.

A 32 paisas reduction in the cost of unit will afford overall relief amounting to Rs 4 billion to the consumers.

Power shortfall has surpassed 3000 megawatt in the country. Electricity demand has been recorded at 16,000 megawatt against the current power production of 12,000 megawatts.

Electricity is being generated at 6150 megawatt from hydel resources – 4935 megawatts from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and 1665 megawatts from thermal resources.
