German jazz ensemble enthralls Karachi

The German Consulate and Goethe Institut in Karachi organized a jazz concert on Monday evening in the city. The audience were in for a treat by the five-member German band Underkarl led by bassist Sebastian Gramss and Pakistan’s jazz prodigy Asif Sinan. The evening started with a tune by Underkarl reminiscient of classical and modernist furniture that concluded with an interesting contest between the clarinet played Rudi Mahall and Lomsch Lehmann on the reeds. The next four pieces by Underkarl were in thethrobbing vein, and the last “Frogs in Love” really a delight for the years.
The concert became even more electric when Sebastian Gramss invited Asif Sinan on the stage playing an instrumental number together. This was followed by Sinan asking his band to join him to present three numbers before Underkarl and Sinan’s bands joining together to conclude the evening with Abida Parveen’s famous song “Mahi Yaad Garoni Kardy” Earlier German Consul General Dr Tilo Klinner at the start of the evening introduced Underkarl and said culture played an essential part in the uplift of a society and its progress. The Director Goethe Institut Dr Manuel Negwer said a busy calendar comprising, cultural, literary and social gathering s were on the anvil courtesy of the Goethe Institut and hoped the gathering enjoyed the evening. After the performance, Underkarl leader Sebastion Gramms spoke informally with media and said he was happy to visit Pakistan. He added that he was happy to interact with Pakistani musicians finding the music rich in its diversity and presentation. The audience appreciated the evening.
